site questions...
this saturday (5 feb) the planning group is visiting the cheltenham site. gayle and sarah will be there on our behalf (not sure about sonia?). if you have any thoughts about things to look at make them now.
as i think some of you are aware one of the things gayle and i began to talk about last year was the venue for new forms. we had a look at istabraq bar as a new possibility (upstairs venue further up the site than centaur). blacking it out might be a challenge but it would be quieter and is an interesting space.
what about club stuff - shouldn't GB have a dedicated club space that worship could happen in?
the contemplative worship has been in a tent last two years in the evenings. it's been too cold! the team want an indoor venue. what about combining that programme with soul space?
should we put some worship into centaur?

Re Istabraq bar – I think it is worth exploring, there are real limitations with foxhunter and after an incident last year with noise we would no longer be able to open the doors to allow heat to escape!
Blacking out - Think maybe it is one of the challenges that people need to work with rather than against or we could look at investing in some seriously large black out (for some or all of the room)!
The other issue that this move would have impact on would be the Club – due to its proximity to Centaur club could not be in the Istabraq bar, but I think GB needs to address the issue of club space as a separate issue
Agree about the Field working with Soul space – think it could produce an exciting programme
Think the idea of worship of a variety of types in Centaur is a good one. Alt worship might be interesting in a space like that if there was a group that had the capacity to think that big!
On Saturday I will definitely check out options and bring up these issues and any others that appear on the blog!
Oh nooooooo! Istabraq is a complete nightmare. Next to impossible to blackout and there is a staircase coming right up through the middle. Malcolm also recons its unsuitable, and not big enough either. What is so bad about Foxhunter apart from the heat and noise thing (but wasn't that just the club? which, as it's at night wouldn't need blacking out) maybe that could move to Istabraq though. I suppose we can't strike any sort of deal with cabaret people to have Gold Cup in the daytime could we? We were wracking our brains about other rooms but they are all even smaller.
i think istabraq is bigger... it's an interesting shape especially for stations and all that sort of stuff. and the big plus is getting away from noise pollution

Re the stairs - the stairs are an entrance into the Istabraq bar and an emergency fire exit from centaur – when spoke to Oli about this after last years GB he felt we could make it a requirement that the bar was only used as a fire escape but this is something that needs checking out!
For me thought of being in Foxhunter again is quite a depressing one and I think it is good to challenge ourselves and do new things. I have had lots of ‘complaints’ about the noise pollution and the heat from contributors
And yes we would have to have the fire doors shut all the time not just at club

I'd really need to see the building again to say for sure whether it was impossible or just very difficult. Pictures of the windows and the roof near them would be helpful and height measurements. But blackout is pretty much essential really. Projections are a big part of what lots of people do. It would hardly be proper alt without them. And, although we have copious amounts of real theatre blackout drapes,(at least 8 large ones) there may be no way of hanging them in there. Real blackouts are heavy. Gaffer tape on glass wouldn't hold (and does nasty things to windows) . But if there is curtain tracking (which I'm not sure there is) or easy access through the cieling there might be possibilities...
i like the idea of NF1 and NF2 in the same place...
i also like the idea of NF1 in the basement but there have always been security problems. istabraq could be really nice for NF2?....
gayle can you take some pics at the weekend?
will take photos and try and get some measurements of all suggested venues! then we can make a more educated decision!

just to let you know Istabraq is definitley a no go for anyone as they are not going to use it as a venue space (maybe exhbition space) due to logistics for centaur
more to follow re venues ....
also sonia you should know that there is quite high possibly that there is going to be a garden built at GB this year that worship might have something to do with ie including prayer trees etc just if this affects what you are doing with sanctuary?

at the moment it is a proposal that has gone to the GB office and in negotiations! and would probably be taken on by various areas but mainly site vibing

re new forms club. i am getting tot the stage were i have more contributors than time in the programme so could run stuff in a seperate venue. however there are obviously equipment issues eg lightind pa etc that run with this that would need considering, and inevitably a bigger budget would result. but i'd go with this, if asuitable venue was found. would be worth knowing what if anything was happening in stage 2 which ahs somtimes done club events and what jason barnett is up to.
also somewhere was a note about contemplative worship going in with soul space i would back this, we are up for taize worship again and might get a taize brother this year affording seminar oportunites perhaps too. i'll explore this if that seems right.

jason isn't doing gb this year so i think the whole club thing is up in the air. maye i'll e-mail you colin etc about that...
w.r.t. taize if you can get a taize brother that would be great - not sure if soul space want to join up with contemplative. i am e-mailing to find out
re club - from NF1 point of view we can survive without the hi-tech lights (think GB would supply some basic cans) and if they moved the club to a new venue we could make sure it was a venue already with a PA.
think programming both for club and NF1 would be able to expand if they had separate venues

very happy to be in charge of a seperate club venue if that seems good, expanding on what we've done in the past and running a parralell programme to NF1
noting above and thhe comment on alt worship in centuar...if it were not packed into a tight schedule The Mass (did a slot in the cavern the first year i ran club worship) might take something like that on,what do people think?
