Shame about the screen, but I think that the film initiative that started last year was excellent, and was well received. I think the groups did really well, and am a bit suprised that the Gblt planning group have not run with it. Can we not find time in the New Form Venues. From Gayle's communication I sense a reluctance from some groups to do later slots in NF1 - so could this not be a late night spot. I know Moot are keen to shoot a new film - and I think other groups are keen, so can we not promote this exciting area rather than limit this new and developing area of New Forms of Worship...... it is not often that alt/emerging groups are so positive - so I suggest run with something.... What do you think....???

Choral Evensong

just a very quick update re choral evensong - at the moment this has not got any further, we are awaiting to hear from Harry what choirs can attend and what they would be up for doing
there is a possibility this may not happen
other option is to get a local cheltenham church to do something???

Planning group meeting

attend the main planning group meeting on Saturday - nothing really exciting to report but things to note!

1. decision re the screen will be on Wednesday 11th May night
2. may 31st is deadline for July publicity - so chase proformas for anyone we have confirmed then this can go on the website and in publicity - send proformas to Jonny or Gayle
3. absolute deadline for tickets and final names is July 31st - they think!! it might be before so would suggest people get forms etc in previous to this date ;0)
4. there is a meeting at Cheltenham on 21st may - planning group, site ops and venue managers currently Sonia and Gayle attending - if anyone wants to know anything let me or sonia know and we can try and find out!
5. GB are also looking for web stories 150 words (might be good to put something on there about any 'big' acts we have , new venues etc) let me know if you are interested in writing something and I will give you more details

and finally - there is going to be an organic beer tent this year (hooray)! They are putting the license out for tender at the moment - good venue for global zoo - Jen??

good news

i asked GB for some more budget as i couldn't se how we could do everything and they have come back with another £500 - good eh?...

budget

we have been allocated £3500 this year. gayle and I have discussed it and can't make it work!!!! so i have e-mailed GB to ask for another £500. we'll see if we get it or not. this is a draft based on the assumption that we will. i don't know what to do otherwise. there may be a few savings/corners we can cut?...

the basic deal is that we will try and offer any group doing one service £30 and two £50 - this really is a token gesture to help cover expenses. groups doing installations i have allocated £100 towards as they tend to involve greater expenditure. some bigger scale things we are chipping a bit more into... anyway the first stab looks like this

New forms 1 - 15 groups say about £750 plus van for visions to bring TVs etc (£100) plus meal vouchers/expenses (£150)
I think we need to treat contemplative in a similar way - say £500 for groups and £100 expenses
New forms 2 – 5 groups doing installations (£100 each plus £100 for venue) - £600

Then we have agreed with other areas of programme

godly play

We mentioned having different types of Godly play sessions for different agegroups etc?? Do we need folks to run them? I was wondering about whether it might be a good thing to ask Ian Birkinshaw, one of our vicars, to do some adult sessions. He's done godly play with adults quite a bit, including with members of Riding Lights and its gone down quite well. What do you think?

Notes from GB Worship Planning meeting March 05

1. Contemplative worship.
Sovreign loung is the indoor venue. Diane will lead a team to pull together a programnme for the venue. This will mean venue managing or finding a venue manager. If this is difficult liase with Sarah about finding one via GB. Goldy play will be incorporated into this venue to do one or two sessions a day. There are other things in the GB talks programme that may connect with this venue.

4. Installations
Sonia to manage New Forms 2 - Out Of Nothing by Grace, and a garden by Sanctuary are in the venue. Other ideas to Sonia.
Paul Hobbs is doing Holy Ground in the gatehouse - being handled by visual arts.

5. Stage 2
Dave Bull is overseeing worship in stage two. Firefly are keen, Asylum are possible?, Flan? The slots are morning Mon and Sat and late Fri, Sat, Sun.

Gayle to respond to triple bypass band and push on to bands

6. Club
Need venue. Steve H will pull together programme. Colin is paying.

7. Around site
Fransiscans will camp and run programme on camp site.
Gayle will oversee prayer trees round site. Peter and Bigger Picture have offered to do that or be involved.

Actions: Mowed labyrinth is being booked by Esther (site vibeing) - Sarah will laise with her on this.

8. Mornings and evening slots
Christian Aid and Wild Goose in one tent. Aradhna and Sanctuary (Brum version with Pall Singh) in Centaur. Local quakers on Sun am. Left other morning tent option open but various suggestions were Johnny Parkes, Geraldine Latty, yoof band and agreed that whoever it is should work with Noel Mouelles as the bible teacher. L'arche are also a possibility for one morning or evening? Evenings - deaf worship and wild goose alternating? depending n who we get in the morning maybe we should keep a slot open for them?
Jonny to co-ordinate this part of programme - liase with alison adam (wild goose), noel, quakers etc...

9. Talks
Jenny Macintosh booked (Spirited exchanges), suggested Brian Walsh, Pete rollins is putting an idea in - was excellent last year, Steve H to chip in a proosed idea, said no to NOStalgia, orthodox idea - picked up by Diane, panle with Matt Redman and others on the cultures of worship? Noel Moulles is good - if he is coming for bible studies should use him in other ways?

10. Other bits and bobs
Survivor (Matt Redman and Tm Hughes and Johnny Parkes) are booked for Sun pm in Centaur. Bands will do the liason.
L'arche will do lunchtime liturgies and three tress service.
Big Sing Sun pm
Goth Mass - unclear where this should be - Stage 2 or New Forms? Dave and Ben both have contacts.
Catholic mass - need one. Unsure where to put it.
North car park stage is available if anyne fancies doing anything there? Catholic mass?
Othona offered stuff but seemed to fit with clasical rather than worship.
Suggestion of choral evensong with choir boys.
Fischy had requested doing stuff - said no as childrens team weren't interested
Video screen - seems to have been toned down in language of trustees. This very frustrating. Same old same old.... Will be 5 minute pieces from groups.
Zoo - agreed it should happen again in bar

11. Make Poverty History
Simon Bateson is GB co-ordinator for the campaign day on the Monday. We looked at his suggestions and agreed an installation could be good but what it is depends on where it goes? Suggested a worship slot on North Car park stage Mon 10am led by Flan. Action fair is a good idea but not at stables. Thought communion needs to not focus on MPH. Flan had ideas of civil disobedience as worship...
Actions: not sure we agreed who would do anything about this? Flan is the obvious person from worship to carry this agenda forward?....

update from planning...

gayle and i attended the wider planning group on saturday. a few things to note:

the new venue being talked for new forms isn't going to happen so it is a toss up between gold cup and foxhunter. sarah will be at the planning meeting on march 15 so we can find out more then.

contemplative venue - real possibility of using sovreign lounge which is an indoor venue. could also have a bit of an expanded programme. no promises yet but looks good. GB have also booked richard rohr, someone else whose name i forget who is a bit of a guru in tat area, and they've had a proposal about meditation stuff in from someone else - so all these things can combine here...

monday will have a focus on the make pverty history campaign. simon nateson is co-ordinating efforts for GB and has sent this blurb round about it:

The key campaign issue of MAKEPOVERTYMONDAY will be forced liberalisation.

This is a complex issue, and so it is easily sidelined by the powers that be, but it is the centrepiece of the campaign.

The story goes like this.

Throughout 2005, if we are not very careful, our own government will tell us that it supports the aims of Make Poverty History, and we will go to sleep. Championing issues that the public believes it understands ˆ aid and debt relief ˆ Gordon Brown will make much of the fact that the government is giving more aid to poor countries and are busy campaigning for debt relief at the G8 summit.

In fact, G8 governments and multinationals ˆ through organisations like the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the European Union ˆ have understood the trick of using promises of aid and debt relief to divide the poorest countries against each other and force them into signing trade agreements which will ensure their future in poverty ˆ for our benefit.

Their message is: we must help to poor to have a share in free trade.
Our message is: what you call free trade is unfair trade.

Why? Well here‚s one example.

For decades Western companies have been spoon fed by their governments, i.e. subsidized by your taxes, and they have gained a stronghold on world markets. They are the big boys.

Until now, poor countries have had the right to protect themselves by charging decent import taxes. The big boys cannot just walk in for nothing, and poor countries can control to some degree how they operate while on their turf.

But to weaken their ability to trade and work their way out of poverty, we have charged poor countries comparatively extortionate taxes to import their goods into Britain and Europe. The result is that while we can bring our goods to their markets, they cannot bring theirs to ours.

Now it gets worse.

In recent years, and this year more than any other, our government is busy telling poor countries: open your gates completely, let us do what we want with your workers and your markets, and in return we will let you bring things into Europe for less. We will stop spoonfeeding our fat companies, and you must agree not to feed your malnourished ones. This is fair, free trade.

In fact, the result will be that poor countries and their fledgling attempts to trade with the West will be overun, bought out and shut down. In no time at all they will have nothing to export except slave labour. Hence the term neo-colonialism‚. This is not an American phenomenon. Our government, admittedly with a different logic, believes it is for the best. They believe that there will be a Œtrickle down effect‚. After all, what more can we ask for?

Here‚s what:

We know what the trickle-down effect means. We have suffered from it ourselves, and continue to do so. The rich get steadily richer, the poor get a little bit extra. But in social, spiritual, environmental and, in reality, physical and material terms, that widening gap acts to make the poor, to all intents and purposes, poorer.

Poor countries must be allowed to subsidise their young businesses as we done have for decades. We must Œfreeze‚ the subsidisation of our own obese interests. We must stop charging ludicrous import taxes and allow developing nations to get on their feet and become competetive and also allow them, for a fair and agreed period, to keep charging us a higher tax for bringing our goods into their countries in order to avoid us swamping them before they even get going.

In reality, however, aid and debt relief are being used to force developing countries to sign trade agreements (E.U. EPAs, for example) which not only put them in the awful position we have described, but which manipulatively break up alliances between poor countries which would have been beneficial to their market growth.

You can see that it is a complex issue ˆ not morally, but just to follow. There is no simple analogy, and we all need to think very creatively about how we can get this across at a popular level. But this is the issue that we have to win. We must make sure that aid and debt relief do not become the wool that is pulled over our eyes.
